Elko County Ambulance Receives Two New Ambulances and Equipment Through CARES Act Funding

The Elko County Ambulance Service has taken delivery of two new 2020 Ford F-350 Type I Ambulances that were delivered by RedSky Fire Apparatus on February 25, 2021.

The new ambulances were purchased utilizing local CARES Act (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act) funds as approved by the Elko County Commission on December 2, 2020.

The ambulances are modern apparatus with features that improve provider and patient safety and reduce the risk of transmission of disease. The ambulances are equipped with UV light sources, high efficiency filters and air handling systems among other features that enhance the unit’s safety and usability.

The Elko County Commission approved up to $400,000 to purchase the ambulances and prepare each for frontline use serving the community.

Additionally, the Elko County Commission separately approved approximately $127,500 to equip the new ambulances and one current ambulance at the Jackpot Station with new patient cots and power cot loading systems. This patient cot system enhances the safety of both EMS personnel and patients. These new patient cot systems will be installed in the newly purchased ambulances in Elko, as well as the existing frontline ambulance located at the Jackpot Fire Department in Jackpot, Nevada.

The new ambulances will replace frontline ambulances that were purchased in 2013. Older and high mileage equipment in the fleet will be eliminated due to this purchase. The new ambulances will be in service shortly following a scheduled State of Nevada Emergency Medical Systems inspection.

The new apparatus were presented to the Elko County Commissioners on April 21, 2021 with all those in attendance given the opportunity to view the new Ambulances before being placed in service.

Elko County Ambulance Service would like to thank the Elko County Board of County Commissioners, Elko County Fiscal Affairs, the Elko County Manager’s Office, and Elko County Emergency Management for their assistance in obtaining these new ambulances through CARES Act funding.
